2024–2025 SkillsUSA Massachusetts Advisors’ Handbook Chapter 3: SkillsUSA Massachusetts Operations • 43 History of 2019-2020 and honored the 2019-2020 state executive council. During the week of June 22-26, 2020 SkillsUSA Massa- chusetts participated in the Virtual National Conference engaging in every opportunity available. Members, advi- sors and Board Members participated in the following events and activities: Corporation Meeting (Board Members), Models of Excellence competition, Digital Cimema and Web Design Virtual competition and the Virtual National Dele- gate Sessions where our state association successfully ran its nineteen candidate for national office. Aliyana Martin, a student in the Medical Assisting program at Southeastern RTHS was elected to the position of National Region I Vice President, making her our nineteenth National Officer from Massachusetts. 2021 The 2021 State Leadership & Skills Conference was was offered in a hybrid format due to the global health crisis of COVID-19. SkillsUSA Massachusetts pivoted to a combination of project submissions and in person experiences for contests and a virtual election of state officers. 385 dele- gates from our Chapters participated in the election casting ballots electronically. In addition, in June SkillsUSA Massachusetts presented a Virtual Awards program and celebration on our maskill- susa.tv channel. The presentation honored all 2021 award winners, celebrated the experiences of 2020-2021 and honored the 2020-2021 state executive council. Cody Douglas, a student from Bay Path RTHS was elected to the position of National Parliamentarian, making him our twentieth National Officer from Massachusetts. Massachusetts saw its membership reach an all time high with total membership of 33,909, consisting of 29,912 high school members, 64 post-secondary/college members, 1,116 professional members, and 2813 alumni and honorary life members. These numbers garnered SkillsUSA Massa- chusetts the third highest membership total in the nation. 2019 SkillsUSA Massachusetts State Leadership & Skills Conference featuring the Massachusetts SkillsUSA Championships was again hosted by Blackstone Valley RTHS and Keefe Technical School. The Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel & Trade Center in Marlborough served as the host hotel for the thirteenth consecutive year. 2019 saw the introduction of Precision Laser Imaging, STEM Immersion Challenge and Collision Damage Appraisal as demonstration contests. Honorary Life Memberships were conferred on; John Brochu, Director of Career & Technical Education, Keefe Technical HS, Senator Michael Rodrigues, Massachusetts Senate, representing the 1st Bristol and Plymouth District, Susan Coghlin Mailman, Chairwoman and Owner, Coghlin Electrical Contractors, Inc., James P. Quaglia, Superinten- dent, Blue Hills RTHS The 56th annual National Leadership & Skills Conference featuring the SkillsUSA Championships was held in Louisville, KY. SkillsUSA Massachusetts brought home 34 National Medals (5 gold, 16 silver & 13 bronze) and 13 (5 gold, 5 silver & 3 bronze) President’s Volunteer Service Awards (individual) and 3 (2 gold & 1 bronze) Team Awards, 127 Skill Point Certificates. The conference also saw SkillsUSA Massachusetts successfully run its eighteenth candidate for National Office. Anika Koopman, a student in the Health Services program at Blackstone Valley Technical High School ran for and was elected to the position of National Region I Vice President, making her the eighteenth National Officer from Massachusetts. Massachusetts saw its membership reach an all time high with total membership of 34,532, consisting of 30,474 student members, 1,131 professional members, and 2,925 alumni and honorary life members. These numbers garnered SkillsUSA Massachusetts the third highest membership total in the nation. 2020 The 2020 State Leadership & Skills Conference was cancelled due to the global health crisis of COVID-19. SkillsUSA Massachusetts pivoted to virtual experiences for the dlection of state officers. 385 delegates from our Chapters participated in the election casting ballots electronically.
