SkillsUSA | Advisor Guide 141 APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS Applications must include proof of current SkillsUSA membership, a completed volunteer service log or timesheet, and verification from each organization where service was performed. Verification should include the applicant’s name, dates of service, total hours, and an authorized signature. Only eligible volunteer service hours may be counted. Meetings, travel time, financial donations, court-ordered service, political or religious activities, service limited to family members, and hours completed as part of SkillsUSA officer responsibilities are not eligible. All documentation must be submitted digitally as a complete PDF. Advisors and members should check the SkillsUSA Massachusetts website for current forms and submission instructions. COSTELLO FAMILY COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD SUBMISSION DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2027 The Costello Family Community Service Award recognizes SkillsUSA Massachusetts chapters for meaningful service projects that address needs within their schools and communities. The award honors the community service efforts of Meg Costello, chapter advisor at Shawsheen Valley Tech, and her family following Hurricane Katrina. PROJECT & REPORT Chapters should complete a community service project and submit a report describing the need addressed, how the project was planned and carried out, member participation, and the impact of the project. Reports should include supporting photographs with brief captions or descriptions. JUDGING Projects are evaluated on originality, creativity, benefit to the community, overall impact, and the quality of the submitted report. Selected chapters are recognized at the State Leadership & Skills Conference. Submit the completed report digitally as a single PDF according to the current SkillsUSA Massachusetts submission instructions. NON-TRADITIONAL CAREER PORTFOLIO SUBMISSION DEADLINE: APRIL 1, 2027 The Massachusetts Non-Traditional Career Portfolio encourages SkillsUSA chapters to introduce middle school students to career and technical programs where individuals of their gender are traditionally underrepresented. The goal is to expand career awareness and help students explore high-skill, high-wage career opportunities without limiting their choices based on traditional expectations. CHAPTER PROJECT Participating chapters develop and present an educational workshop for middle school students before the State Leadership & Skills Conference. The workshop should: • Promote awareness of non-traditional career pathways • Include information, stories, or data related to the selected career area • Use engaging visuals or presentation materials • Include at least one piece of promotional or marketing material • Include an interactive activity that involves the audience • Be approximately 1–2 hours in length PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENTS Chapters must submit a portfolio documenting the project. The portfolio should include: • A written summary of the workshop, audience, objectives, participants, and impact • Copies or examples of materials used during the presentation • Marketing or promotional materials • Supporting resources, references, speaker information, and other materials used to develop the workshop The portfolio should provide enough information for another chapter to understand how the project was developed and delivered.
